Dressing up your pets during Halloween can be a fun, safe experience if it is done by considering the best interests of your animals. The Edmonton Humane Society warns pet owners to never dress up their pets if the animals resists it or appear to be unhappy wearing clothing.
If you decide to dress up your pet, please never:
- put a mask on the animal - it could restrict their vision
- put clothing on your pet that is too tight - it could restrict their breathing
- put clothing on your pet that is too loose - it could end up caught on something and then become a choking hazard
- use elastics while dressing up your pet - they could cause harm to the animal
Note:
Many pets with short hair and those who spend a lot of time going for walks require an extra layer of clothing and even boots on their feet during the cold weather months. (boots provide necessary protection from extreme cold and salt from streets or sidewalks, to keep feet warm and healthy).
