Hello! Great idea, this forum! Thank you for creating it!

I'm Chris, and I'm the proud owner of a little 7-pound Miniature American Eskimo/Chihuahua mix named Gizmo and co-owner of my husband's dog Hotshot, a 15-pound Bichon Frise/Shih Tzu mix. Both are little boys who are full of themselves and awfully silly but I wouldn't trade them for the world! We just had a baby girl on July 18th and the little goggies (as we call them) are GREAT with her! I love you

Yes, it is and thank you! My husband and I talked MANY times about the baby and dogs well before the little pink bundle arrived, and we agreed we'd do everything in our power to make sure they all got along. We refused to be one of those ads you always see on Kijiji where people are getting rid of their animals because of a new human arrival!!!

The interesting thing is that ever since I met Hotshot when he was 1.5 years old, I always told Glen (my husband) that he looked like he had a big question mark over his head - like he had no idea why he was here.

Well, the 1st night the baby (Jessica) was born, Glen brought home a blanket we'd wrapped her in. Hotshot sniffed it once and his tail went berserk and he got all happy. Same with the next night, and when we finally came home with her, Hotshot completely changed - I mean, his face actually literally changed and the question mark was gone! We realized then that he was her protector, and that SHE had been the reason he was here...at least, in his mind. Now he looks out for her and is always concerned about her and such, and feels he has a purpose! It's so wonderful!

Gizmo is her playmate. And he licks her to death. LOL

That is so wonderful that you aren't one of those kijiji ads. I get so sad seeing so many "due to situation changes" I would never, ever give up my animals. I've had issues finding a house these past few months, but I continued to persevere, and now I am going to be renting a wonderful (affordable!) place that will let me have my boys Smile

And Hotshot's found his purpose! Oh how wonderful Smile I'm sure Jessica will LOVE to play with the boys once shes crawling around! Such a sweet household it must be Smile

I have never EVER even considered getting rid of whatever animals I've had at the time. I have an older son, he's 9 and currently lives with his dad in Southern California. However, when he was 1 year and 3 months old, his dad and I split up. I ended up with all the living creatures from the family...my little baby boy, 2 South American Cichlids (fish), my calico cat and my 80-pound Treeing Walker Coonhound. Getting a place that would accept ALL of us was darn near impossible in the Los Angeles area, but let me tell you the truth - it never even OCCURRED to me to get rid of any of them!!! (By the way did you see the Kijiji ad the other day where a lady posted (as a sort of dark humour thing) that she had to get rid of her baby because it drooled too much and was too noisy? Then she said that if people were horrified they ought to be because it was the same as all these "I have to get rid of my cat/dog because it's inconvenient now" ads...I felt like yelling HEAR, HEAR!!!!)

I don't know if the household can be considered sweet as yet...it's still a little too crazy! LOL Gizmo gets jealous when I start playing with Jessica so he's constantly shoving his little green monster (funny, that) squeaky toy on my leg or something, but at least he's not aggressive at all. Half the time I'm sitting on the couch with the baby laying on the couch to my left, me feeding her a bottle with my left hand, and taking Gizmo's toy from him with my right hand, throwing it down the hall for him. It's times like that when (inevitably) the phone rings, the mailman comes, a package gets delivered or the oven timer goes off. lol!
